NSA Research is looking for candidates to join a team that is actively contributing to the latest 5G security standards and advancing the security of 5G open source software. NSA's Research Scientists apply world-class subject-matter expertise to produce game-changing and enduring accomplishments towards the most challenging cybersecurity problems. NSA is seeking candidates to join our vibrant multi-disciplinary group of scientists, engineers, and thought-leaders dedicated to protecting national security interests. NSA Research Scientists are actively expanding the boundaries of what can be accomplished with artificial intelligence, machine learning, data science, novel architectures, and cyber security. Our goal is to create architectures and platforms to enable development of secure systems which defend our nation's telecommunications and cloud platforms interests. Successful candidates should have demonstrated success in conducting Computer Science research and a proven track record of turning research ideas into successful prototypes. As a Research Scientist, other responsibilities may include: - Conducting scientific experiments, documenting results, and communicating with colleagues, customers, and decision makers; - Generate and lead research and development projects for 5G applications or underlying cloud infrastructure - Contribute security enhancement prototypes to 5G systems and underlying cloud infrastructure - Engage with peers and external partners to promote and refine research designs - Maintain awareness of new technologies in the open source 5G application and cloud infrastructure security landscapes

The qualifications listed are the minimum acceptable to be considered for the position. Degree must be in Computer Science (CS) or Computer Engineering (CE). Other STEM fields (e.g., Engineering, Mathematics, or Information Systems (IS)) may be considered relevant if the programs contain, at minimum, a concentration of courses in the following foundational CS areas: algorithms; computer architecture (not network architecture); programming methodologies and languages; data structures; logic and computation; and advanced mathematics (for example, calculus, discrete mathematics). Relevant experience must be in one or more of the following: computer systems research, simulation/model development and prototyping, software design, programming, computational science, algorithm analysis and design, reverse engineering, designing/developing computer or information systems, including engineering hardware or software, machine learning, artificial intelligence, visualization, human-computer interaction, data science, or high performance computing. ENTRY/DEVELOPMENTAL Entry is with a Bachelor's degree and no experience. An Associate's degree plus 2 years of relevant experience may be considered for individuals with in-depth experience that is clearly related to the position. FULL PERFORMANCE Entry is with a Bachelor's degree plus 3 years of relevant experience or a Master's degree plus 1 year of relevant experience or a Doctoral degree and no experience. An Associate's degree plus 5 years of relevant experience may be considered for individuals with in-depth experience that is clearly related to the position. SENIOR Entry is with a Bachelor's degree plus 6 years of relevant experience or a Master's degree plus 4 years of relevant experience or a Doctoral degree plus 2 years of relevant experience. An Associate's degree plus 8 years of relevant experience may be considered for individuals with in-depth experience that is clearly related to the position. EXPERT Entry is with a Bachelor's degree plus 9 years of relevant experience or a Master's degree plus 7 years of relevant experience or a Doctoral degree plus 5 years of relevant experience. An Associate's degree plus 11 years of relevant experience may be considered for individuals with in-depth experience that is clearly related to the position.

Applicants should have excellent problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills, and possess a range of knowledge and experience in the following desired areas: - Knowledge and experience in 5G network specifications and solutions - Knowledge and experience in telecommunications architectures and equipment - Programming (C/C++, Python, Java or Go) - Administering or developing applications for Kubernetes platforms and/or programmatically utilizing a cloud platform

Salary offers are based on candidates' education level and years of experience relevant to the position and also take into account information provided by the hiring manager/organization regarding the work level for the position. Salary ranges vary by location and work level. This position is hiring for Maryland. Salary Range: $77,745 - $183,500 (Entry/Developmental, Full Performance, Senior, Expert) Advancement Continuous learning opportunities are highly encouraged and readily available for all employees.
