NSA Overview The professionals at the National Security Agency (NSA) have one common goal: to protect our nation. The mission requires a strong offense and a steadfast defense. The offense collects, processes and disseminates intelligence information derived from foreign signals for intelligence and counterintelligence purposes. The defense prevents adversaries from gaining access to sensitive of classified national security information. Occupational safety and health professionals in the Office of Occupational Health, Environmental, and Safety Services support the mission by developing and implementing safety and health standards and regulations to eliminate risk and/or reduce potential hazards. Description of Position We are seeking entry-level and experienced safety professionals to support our team as a Safety Specialist. The successful candidate will be joining a globally dispersed team of Environmental, Safety, and Health (ES&H) professionals who manage programs that are recognized as models in the intelligence community. This position is responsible for anticipating, recognizing, evaluating, controlling, and eliminating hazards; preparing written technical reports with recommendations for corrective actions; evaluating management systems in accordance with international auditing protocols; delivering education and training solutions via multiple platforms; conducting accident investigations; and coordinating with building management, medical, industrial hygiene, fire protection, environmental, and engineering professionals to resolve issues that impact the health and well-being of the workforce. Additional duties include interpreting safety and health codes, standards, and regulations; conducting design reviews for new construction, building renovations, and new equipment/system procurements; maintaining technical proficiency to provide up-to-date guidance on regulatory standards and industry best practices; and possible contract maintenance. Candidates must be willing to travel (generally less than 10%), both domestically and internationally.
The Office of Occupational Health Environmental and Safety Services (OHESS) known as the NSA Medical Center, supports the mission by applying professional knowledge in Occupational Health, Environmental, Industrial Hygiene and Safety operating in accordance with all governing body regulations. OHESS personnel will provide clinical services, including emergency response, physical exams, immunizations, vision and preventative health screenings. Personnel will also provide technical, managerial, and administrative services to the entire workforce. Promoting, assessing and optimizing the health and safety of the NSA workforce and workplace is always priority.
Salary Ranges: $49,157 - $78,167 (Entry) *The qualifications listed are the minimum acceptable to be considered for the position. Salary offers are based on candidates' education level and years of experience relevant to the position and also take into account information provided by the hiring manager/organization regarding the work level for the position. Entry is with an Associate's degree plus 2 years of relevant experience, or a Bachelor's degree and no experience. Degree must be in a safety-related field (e.g., occupational safety and health, safety management, safety science, safety engineering, industrial hygiene, etc.), however a degree in any field is acceptable if the applicant holds any of the following credentials: Associate Safety Professional (ASP), Graduate Safety Professional (GSP), Occupational Hygiene & Safety Technician (OHST), or Construction Health & Safety Technician (CHST). Relevant experience must be in a safety-related field (e.g., occupational safety and health, safety management, safety science, safety engineering, industrial hygiene, etc.). Certification from Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP) is desirable. Salary Ranges: $72,750 - $113,362 (Full Performance) *The qualifications listed are the minimum acceptable to be considered for the position. Salary offers are based on candidates' education level and years of experience relevant to the position and also take into account information provided by the hiring manager/organization regarding the work level for the position. Entry is with an Associate's degree plus 5 years of relevant experience or a Bachelor's degree plus 3 years of relevant experience, or a Master's degree plus 1 year of relevant experience. Degree must be in a safety-related field (e.g., occupational safety and health, safety management, safety science, safety engineering, industrial hygiene, etc.), however a degree in any field is acceptable if the applicant holds any of the following credentials: Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Associate Safety Professional (ASP), Graduate Safety Professional (GSP), Occupational Hygiene & Safety Technician (OHST), Construction Health & Safety Technician (CHST) or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH). Relevant experience must be in a safety-related field (e.g., occupational safety and health, safety management, safety science, safety engineering, industrial hygiene, etc.). Certification from Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP) or American Board of Industrial Hygiene (ABIH) is desirable. Salary Range: $103,690 - $159,286 (Senior) *The qualifications listed are the minimum acceptable to be considered for the position. Salary offers are based on candidates' education level and years of experience relevant to the position and also take into account information provided by the hiring manager/organization regarding the work level for the position. Entry is with an Associate's degree plus 8 years of relevant experience or Bachelor's degree plus 6 years of relevant experience, or Master's degree plus 4 years of relevant experience. Degree must be in a safety-related field (e.g., occupational safety and health, safety management, safety science, safety engineering, industrial hygiene, etc.), however a degree in any field is acceptable if the applicant holds any of the following credentials: Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Associate Safety Professional (ASP), Graduate Safety Professional (GSP), Occupational Hygiene & Safety Technician (OHST), Construction Health & Safety Technician (CHST), or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH). Relevant experience must be in a safety-related field (e.g., occupational safety and health, safety management, safety science, safety engineering, industrial hygiene, etc.). Certification from Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP) or American Board of Industrial Hygiene (ABIH) is required, and certification as a Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Associate Safety Professional (ASP), or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) must be obtained within 24 months of employment.
The ideal candidate is someone with a desire for continuous learning and strong problem-solving, communication (both oral and written), and interpersonal skills who is: - Able to work effectively across several different functional areas in a collaborative environment - Well-organized and able to handle multiple assignments - Willing to take the initiative - Willing to be innovative to achieve success Applicants should possess a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Occupational Safety, Occupational Safety and Health, Safety Management, Safety Engineering, or Safety sciences; however, other related degrees with appropriate experience and/or coursework validation will be considered. Recognition as a Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Associate Safety Professional (ASP), Graduate Safety Professional (GSP), or Construction Safety & Health Technician (CHST), is highly preferred. Candidates not already certified must be working towards certification within 24 months of employment. Must demonstrate application of scientific principles and techniques to identify and evaluate exposures and mitigate risks. Must demonstrate effective people skills, specifically the ability to understand and moderate responses in a way that builds trust and respect with diverse customer sets. Additional skills required include experience in fall protection and tower climbing, proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office products, proficient speaking and writing skills, and the ability to quickly integrate and excel in a team setting. This position requires lifting (not to exceed 50 pounds), climbing of ladders, and some outside survey work.
